ACCESS Practice Lab
Quick guide

Build confidence in listening, reading, speaking, and writing—one short session at a time.

Original classroom practice. This is not an official WIDA test, score, or placement.

Start in three steps

  1. Choose your grade band. Open Grades 3–5 or Grades 6–8 above. You can switch bands on the lab home page.
  2. Choose a short session. Select Start today’s practice or Continue my practice. Open Change my plan or see activities to pick a skill, support choice, and 2, 4, or 6 activities.
  3. Try, check, and try again. Follow each activity’s directions. Listen or read, speak or write, then use the feedback or checklist. Use Next to continue your session.

Choose the help you need

Starting uses words and short sentences. Growing connects ideas. Expanding adds details and explanations. These are support choices, not WIDA scores.

Inside an activity, Learn with help offers strategies, vocabulary, and available examples. Try independently hides extra hints and models; directions and audio replay stay available. Switch back when you need help. Switching modes keeps your current attempt. For a checked selected-answer task, use Start a fresh independent attempt to clear the answer and save an earlier-attempt summary.

For speaking, allow microphone access, record, stop, and listen back. If recording is unavailable, practice aloud with a teacher or partner.

Keep your work

Written work and progress save in this browser when storage is available. Return on the same browser and device to continue. Clearing browser data can remove your work.

To back up or switch devices, open My Passport → Copy my progress code. Keep the full code beginning ACCESS1. private. On the other device, paste it into Passport and select Load progress.

Loading a backup keeps existing work on the device and adds missing activities. It does not replace an activity you already worked on. Use a separate browser profile if you need to open a different saved version.

Recordings are temporary. They disappear when the page closes or reloads and are not included in your progress code.

Site Save / Resume short codes are separate. Use the full Passport code for a lab backup. On a shared device, check whose work is saved and export yours before another learner starts.

Prefer paper?

Open a skill room and choose your support level. Under Take this practice to paper, choose Preview & print for a printable HTML packet, or Download Word packet for an editable document.

Student packets have space to respond. You can also print your Passport. Choose Review and print my portfolio in Passport to compare your first and current writing drafts, read your revision reflections, and see earlier attempt summaries.
