Start Here: What does “per 1” mean?
A unit rate compares a quantity to exactly 1 of another quantity. The same idea works for dollars per item, miles per hour, words per minute, and more.

Look at the second quantity. If it is 1, you have a unit rate.
Unit Rate Builder
Rewrite the situation as a fraction in your head. Then divide the numerator and denominator by the same number so the denominator becomes 1.
Better Buy Battle
Find each unit price, then choose the better buy. For equal products, the lower cost per 1 is the better unit price.
