  • Chefs supervise a team of cooks preparing everything from appetizers to desserts. Watch how much of that job is quietly mathematical. We'll walk through a worked example, try one together, then you'll try a few with hints right there when you need them.
2Worked Example — Watch me find the math in a chef's day
  1. When chefs plan menus, they determine the number of items on the menu and calculate the price point for each item.
  2. They decide on the portion size of each item and project how much food is needed for each day.
  3. They calculate how much of each ingredient to order — that is counting, measuring, and multiplying, all before a single dish is cooked.
