Before you can interpret what fraction division means, you need to picture equal groups and equal sharing โ the same ideas behind whole-number division. Get those warm and "how many halves fit in 3?" makes sense.
These are words you'll need to already know to follow this lesson โ not the new words the lesson teaches. Review each one, its meaning, and the example so the new lesson makes sense from the start.
Level 1 To split an amount into equal groups, or find how many equal pieces fit.
Example: Split 6 cookies onto 2 plates: 6 รท 2 = 3.
Level 1 Groups that each hold the same amount.
Example: 8 apples in 4 baskets means 2 apples in each basket.
Level 1 The bottom number of a fraction; it tells how many equal parts the whole has.
Example: In 3/4, the denominator is 4, so the whole has 4 equal parts.
Level 1 One complete thing before it is cut into parts.
Example: Two halves snap together to make 1 whole.
These check the skills you'll need for this lesson โ not the new lesson itself. Answer all 3, then press Show my path. No grade โ it just suggests where to start.
1. In the fraction 3/4, which number is the denominator (total equal parts)?
2. 12 รท 3 means: how many groups of 3 are in 12. What is it?
3. How many halves make 1 whole?
Vocabulary previewed and basics checked. Time to start the lesson.
