A regular polygon can be split into equal triangles, so you find one triangle's area and multiply by how many triangles there are. That runs on triangle area (base ร height รท 2), multiplication facts, and adding equal areas. Warm those up and a hexagon is just six triangles.
These are words you'll need to already know to follow this lesson โ not the new words the lesson teaches. Review each one, its meaning, and the example so the new lesson makes sense from the start.
Level 1 A shape with three straight sides and three corners.
Example: A slice of pizza is shaped like a triangle.
Level 1 How much flat space is inside; you find it by base times height, then take half.
Example: Base 4 and height 3: 4 ร 3 รท 2 = 6 square units.
Level 1 To add the same number many times to find a total.
Example: 6 ร 5 means add 6 five times, which equals 30.
Level 1 To put numbers together to find a total.
Example: Six equal areas of 4 add up to 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 24.
These check the skills you'll need for this lesson โ not the new lesson itself. Answer all 3, then press Show my path. No grade โ it just suggests where to start.
1. A triangle has base 4 and height 3. Its area is base ร height รท 2 = ?
2. What is 6 ร 5?
3. Six triangles each have area 4. What is the total area?
