A composite figure is just simpler shapes stuck together. You find each piece's area and add them up. So the feeder skills are rectangle and triangle area plus adding areas. Warm those up and any L-shape or house-shape becomes a few easy pieces.
These are words you'll need to already know to follow this lesson โ not the new words the lesson teaches. Review each one, its meaning, and the example so the new lesson makes sense from the start.
Level 1 How much flat space is inside; you find it by base times height.
Example: A rectangle 4 by 3 has area 4 ร 3 = 12 square units.
Level 1 How much flat space is inside; you find it by base times height, then take half.
Example: Base 4 and height 3: 4 ร 3 รท 2 = 6 square units.
Level 1 To put numbers together to find a total.
Example: If the pieces are 15 and 9, the total is 15 + 9 = 24.
Level 1 The little squares we use to measure area, like square cm.
Example: If 20 small squares fit inside, the area is 20 square units.
These check the skills you'll need for this lesson โ not the new lesson itself. Answer all 3, then press Show my path. No grade โ it just suggests where to start.
