Real example: each concert bundle has a ticket ($15) and a snack ($5).
For 3 bundles we can write 3(15 + 5).
Para 3 paquetes podemos escribir 3(15 + 5).
One way: add inside the parentheses first.
Una forma: sumar primero dentro del paréntesis.
15 + 5 = 20, then 3 × 20 = 60. The total is $60.
15 + 5 = 20, luego 3 × 20 = 60. El total es $60.
Other way: share the 3 with each part.
Otra forma: repartir el 3 con cada parte.
Multiply 3 × 15 = 45 and 3 × 5 = 15.
Multiplica 3 × 15 = 45 y 3 × 5 = 15.
Then add those two pieces: 45 + 15 = 60.
Luego suma esas dos partes: 45 + 15 = 60.
Both ways give $60, so 3(15 + 5) = 3 × 15 + 3 × 5.
Las dos formas dan $60, así que 3(15 + 5) = 3 × 15 + 3 × 5.

Why:Por qué: Expanding means the outside factor multiplies every term inside the parentheses. For 2(x + 5) that is 2 × x = 2x and 2 × 5 = 10, so the expanded form is 2x + 10. For 4(3 + 7) it is 4 × 3 = 12 and 4 × 7 = 28, giving 12 + 28 = 40 — the same result as 4 × 10.Expandir significa que el factor de afuera multiplica cada término dentro del paréntesis. Para 2(x + 5) eso da 2 × x = 2x y 2 × 5 = 10, así que la forma expandida es 2x + 10. Para 4(3 + 7) da 4 × 3 = 12 y 4 × 7 = 28, o sea 12 + 28 = 40, el mismo resultado que 4 × 10.

Why:Por qué: The outside factor multiplies the whole term inside, coefficient included, and the sign inside stays the same. So 3(2x + 5) = 6x + 15, 7(a − 4) = 7a − 28, 2(3m + 8) = 6m + 16, and 5(6 − y) = 30 − 5y.El factor de afuera multiplica el término completo de adentro, incluido su coeficiente, y el signo de adentro se mantiene igual. Así, 3(2x + 5) = 6x + 15, 7(a − 4) = 7a − 28, 2(3m + 8) = 6m + 16 y 5(6 − y) = 30 − 5y.

Why:Por qué: A distribution is correct only when the outside factor multiplied both terms inside. 2(x + 6) = 2x + 12, 5(y + 2) = 5y + 10, and 6(m + 1) = 6m + 6 all do that. In 4(n + 3) = 4n + 3 and 3(a + 7) = 3a + 7 the second term was copied down untouched — they should read 4n + 12 and 3a + 21.Una distribución es correcta solo cuando el factor de afuera multiplicó los dos términos de adentro. 2(x + 6) = 2x + 12, 5(y + 2) = 5y + 10 y 6(m + 1) = 6m + 6 lo hacen. En 4(n + 3) = 4n + 3 y 3(a + 7) = 3a + 7 el segundo término se copió sin cambios; deberían quedar como 4n + 12 y 3a + 21.

Why:Por qué: Factoring runs the distributive property backwards: pull the greatest common factor out front and leave what remains inside the parentheses. 6x + 18 shares a GCF of 6, giving 6(x + 3); 10n − 15 shares 5, giving 5(2n − 3); and 8a + 12 shares 4, giving 4(2a + 3). Distributing each answer returns the original expression. Why:Por qué: Because 98 = 100 − 2, you can rewrite 6 × 98 as 6(100 − 2) and distribute: 6 × 100 − 6 × 2 = 600 − 12 = 588. The distributive property is what makes that rewrite legal, and it turns one hard multiplication into two easy ones — the same trick works for problems like 7 × 99 or 4 × 52.Como 98 = 100 − 2, puedes reescribir 6 × 98 como 6(100 − 2) y distribuir: 6 × 100 − 6 × 2 = 600 − 12 = 588.

Start here: Distribute each expression first. The CONSTANT is then the plain number with no variable on it — the 21 in 3x + 21.
Expand each expression, then sort by whether the expanded form has a constant greater than 15 or not.

Why:Por qué: The constant is the term with no variable, and each card's expansion already shows it. The constants 21, 20, and 18 in 3x + 21, 5a + 20, and 6m + 18 are all greater than 15, while 2n + 10, 4y − 8, and 6x + 2 are not.

Expand before matching: multiply the outside number by the first term inside, then by the second, and keep the + between the two products.
Start here: Each factored cue on one side matches exactly one expanded cue on the other, following the rule a(b + c) = ab + ac.

Why:Por qué: Every light cue follows the pattern a(b + c) = ab + ac, so the outside factor lands on both terms inside: 2(b + c) = 2b + 2c, 6(x + 2) = 6x + 12, 3(m + 5) = 3m + 15, and 5(p + 1) = 5p + 5.Cada señal de luz sigue el patrón a(b + c) = ab + ac, así que el factor de afuera cae sobre los dos términos de adentro: 2(b + c) = 2b + 2c, 6(x + 2) = 6x + 12, 3(m + 5) = 3m + 15 y 5(p + 1) = 5p + 5.
