Reflecting a point is the idea of opposites on a grid: same distance, the other direction. Warm up reading ordered pairs and flipping a direction (left↔right, up↔down) and reflections feel like a mirror.
These are words you'll need to already know to follow this lesson — not the new words the lesson teaches. Review each one, its meaning, and the example so the new lesson makes sense from the start.
Level 1 Two numbers that tell a point's spot: across first, then up or down.
Example: (4, 1) means go right 4, then up 1.
Level 1 Going the other way; the reverse direction.
Example: Left is the opposite of right, and up is the opposite of down.
Level 1 How far apart two things are.
Example: A point 3 steps right is the same distance as 3 steps left.
Level 1 Moving left or right, side to side.
Example: Flip a point across to the other side, the same distance away.
These check the skills you'll need for this lesson — not the new lesson itself. Answer all 3, then press Show my path. No grade — it just suggests where to start.
1. What is the opposite direction of left?
2. A point is 3 steps right of 0. Its mirror is the same distance the other way. How far left?
3. In (x, y), which number tells how far up or down?
Vocabulary previewed and basics checked. Time to start the lesson.
