1. Percent Means “Out of 100”

Explore the 100-square grid on the left, then step through the 8 practice cards on the right.

Explora la cuadrícula de 100 cuadrados a la izquierda y completa las 8 tarjetas de práctica a la derecha.

💡 1 Whole Grid = 100 Squares = 100%  ·  Every 1 square = 1%

Not Shaded 60 sq
Whole Grid 100 sq
📘 Quick Reference: Percent Essentials & Benchmarks (Click to open)
Percent (%) Means “per hundred” or “out of 100.” Example: 40% = 40/100 = 0.40.
100% = 1 Whole Less than 100% is less than 1 whole. Greater than 100% (like 150%) is more than 1 whole!
Shaded + Unshaded = 100% If 62 squares are shaded (62%), then 100 − 62 = 38 squares (38%) are NOT shaded.
Less Than 1% (like 0.5%) 1 square = 1%. Splitting 1 square in half gives 0.5% = 0.5/100 = 1/200!

2. Finding Percents with Equivalent Ratios

Multiply the whole (bottom) and the part (top) by the exact same scale factor so the bottom number becomes 100.

Multiplica el entero (abajo) y la parte (arriba) por el mismo factor para que el denominador sea 100.

3. Ratio Tables & Percent Bars

What if the whole does not multiply into 100 in one step? Use a Percent Bar (find 1 block first) or a Bridge Ratio Table (simplify first, then scale to 100)!

Usa una barra de porcentaje (halla 1 bloque primero) o una tabla puente (simplifica primero y luego multiplica para llegar a 100).

🧭 Two Easy Strategies:  1) Find 1 Block on a Bar  ·  2) Divide to Simplify, Then Multiply to 100

4. Real-World Problems & Error Detective

Apply equivalent ratios to real-world stories, percents over 100%, and spot common mistakes.

Resuelve problemas del mundo real, porcentajes mayores que 100% y corrige errores comunes.

🔍 Ask First: What number is the whole (100%)? Does the question ask for the part or the complement?
