📘 Word Bank + Sentence Frames

term coefficient factor constant variable

  • Term = a part separated by + or −. ("3x" and "7" are terms.)
  • Coefficient = the number multiplied by a variable. (In 3x, it is 3.)
  • Factor = something being multiplied. (In 3x, the factors are 3 and x.)
  • Constant = a number by itself, no variable. (Here, 7.)
  • Frame: "In ____, the coefficient is ____ and the constant is ____."

3x + 7
x = variable (part of term 3x) 3 = coefficient 7 = constant

The expression 3x + 7 has two terms: 3x and 7. The term 3x has two factors (3 and x). The coefficient is 3. The constant is 7.
