Stretch: Ordering Negatives in Context
I can write and explain ordering statements about temperature, elevation, and money using inequalities.
🧠 The Challenge
temperatureelevationdebtorderinequality
Context tells you which way is "more." Warmer temperature, higher elevation, and a smaller debt are all the greater (rightmost) value. −5°C is warmer than −10°C, so −5 > −10.
👀 Worked Example
City A is −8°C and City B is −3°C. Since −3 > −8, City B is warmer. An elevation of −50 ft is higher than −200 ft because −50 > −200.
✏️ Your Turn
0 of 3 checks complete
1. City A is −8°C, City B is −3°C. Which is warmer?
2. Which is the SMALLER debt: owing $20 or owing $50?
3. Which elevation is higher: −200 ft or −50 ft?
💬 Explain Your Thinking
Write a temperature comparison of two cities and its inequality:
"City blank is blank°C and City blank is blank°C. The warmer city is blank, so blank blank blank."
