Tonight we find the area of a parallelogram. A parallelogram is a slanted four-sided shape, like a leaning rectangle. We use the rule: area = base × height.

Real example: a patio is shaped like a parallelogram.
Its base is 14 feet and its height is 9 feet. We want to know its area in square feet.
Write the rule: area = base × height.
Escribe la regla: área = base × altura.
Put in the numbers: area = 14 × 9.
Pon los números: área = 14 × 9.
Multiply: 14 × 9 = 126.
Multiplica: 14 × 9 = 126.
So the area is 126 square feet. We used the height of 9, not the slanted side.
Listen for "altura" (height) — it means the straight-up distance from the base to the top, making a square corner.

Why:Por qué: The three cards that mention a 90 degree angle, a perpendicular distance, or a straight-up measurement to the top all describe the height. The slanted left edge, the long tilted side, and the leaning side longer than the perpendicular gap are sides of the figure, not the height — a slanted segment is always longer than the true straight-up distance.

Why:Por qué: Area = base x height. Both have base 10 ft and height 6 ft, so both areas are 10 x 6 = 60 sq ft. Why:Por qué: The shape name decides the rule. Why:Por qué: In A = b × h the base of 12 cm is a fixed factor, so the area is just 12 times whatever the height is. With h = 5, A = 12 × 5 = 60 sq cm; doubling to h = 10 gives A = 12 × 10 = 120 sq cm, exactly double, because doubling one factor doubles the product.

Start from A = b × h. To undo a multiplication, divide: h = A ÷ b.
Start here: This time you're given the area (54 sq ft) and the base (9 ft) — the height is the missing piece.

Use A = base × height. If your number looks like 9 + 5, or like half the product, rethink the operation.
Usa A = base × altura.
Start here: Spot the base (9 cm) and the height (5 cm). Which operation does the area formula use on them?

Missing area → multiply b × h. Missing base or height → divide the area by the measurement you know.
Start here: Check each row: Patios A and D are missing area, but Patios B and C are missing a base or a height.

Why:Por qué: Patios A and D give both measurements, so multiply: 14 × 9 = 126 sq ft and 15 × 6 = 90 sq ft. Patios B and C give the area and one measurement, so divide to undo the multiplication: 56 ÷ 8 = 7 ft of height and 96 ÷ 12 = 8 ft of base.
