📖 What we're learning tonightQué aprendemos hoy

English

Tonight we read a histogram we already know how to build, and say in words what its shape tells us about the data.

Key words

  • Histogram
  • Frequency

  • Histograma
  • Frecuencia

  • If they get stuck, ask:Si se atora, pregunten: What do the data tell us, and where can you see that?¿Qué nos dicen los datos y dónde lo ves?
  • Try not to say:Eviten decir: A tall bar in the middle always means symmetric.

🎯 The big ideaLa idea principal

In one sentence: The bars of a histogram make a shape, and the shape is information. The tallest bar — the peak — shows where most of the values are. If the bars on each side of the peak match, the data is symmetric; if one side trails off long, it is skewed toward that side.

Data: 2, 3, 3, 4, 8 123456789 Mean · Media = 4 Median · Mediana = 3 Mode · Moda = 3 One dot = one value
Mean is the fair share, median is the middle value in order, mode is the one that repeats most.
  1. Set upPlanteaStep 1Paso 1

Real example: a histogram has a bar of height 2 over 60–69, height 4 over 70–79, and height 2 over 80–89.

  2. ModelModelaStep 2Paso 2

Find the peak first — the tallest bar.

    More detailMás detalle

It is the bar of height 4, covering the interval 70–79.

  3. SolveResuelveStep 3Paso 3

    Compare the sides.

    Compara los lados.

    More detailMás detalle

The bar to the left of the peak is height 2 and the bar to the right is also height 2. They match.

Coinciden.

  4. CheckRevisaStep 4Paso 4

Matching sides mean the data is nearly symmetric around the peak, so a typical value falls in 70–79.

Watch for these (3)Ten en cuenta (3)
  • 👀

Listen for "peak" — the tallest bar, where most of the values sit.

  • 📊

Listen for "skewed" (sesgado) — most values bunch on one side with a long tail on the other.

  • ✋

The bars of a histogram touch. A gap between bars means an interval with zero values, not a spacing choice.

Change the numbers. Explain what the picture shows.

1

Touch and changeToca y cambia

Move, type, tap, or drag in the model. Watch what changes.

2

Write the mathEscribe las matemáticas

Record one equation, value, or relationship you can see.

3

Explain the modelExplica el modelo

I notice ___ changes when ___ changes. This shows ___.Noto que ___ cambia cuando ___ cambia. Esto muestra ___.
