Real example: a band has 3 guitarists, 5 drummers, and 2 keyboard players. Added in order, that is 3 + 5 + 2 = 10 musicians.

The Commutative Property says the order does not matter. If we seat drummers first: 5 + 3 + 2 = 10. Still 10 musicians.

The Associative Property says the grouping does not matter. (3 + 5) + 2 means add 3 + 5 = 8 first, then 8 + 2 = 10.

Commutative Property

You can change the order and get the same answer.

Identity Property

Adding 0 or multiplying by 1 keeps the same value.

Distributive Property

You can multiply a number by each part inside the parentheses, then add.
